New Life will be hosting a seminar on Friday, September 30 at 7:00pm entitled Faith, Film, and Philosophy: Discerning the Big Ideas on the Big Screen. In this seminar, our own Jim Spiegel, award-winning author and professor of Philosophy and Religion at Taylor University, will discuss how to discern the philosophical concepts and claims presented in movies from within a distinctively Christian framework. Illustrating his points though various classic and contemporary films, he will explore themes such as the human condition, the human mind and the nature of knowing, the moral life, and the nature of faith and spirituality.

As Jim puts it, because film is the most influential art form in contemporary Western culture, those who seek to understand culture must, to some degree, become students of film. Christians in particular should take a special interest in film because of its power to persuade audiences regarding ideas, values, and even ultimate meaning.

The seminar is free of charge and open to the public.
